College

Like most people, I went to college directly out of high school, I went to a junior college where I lived for 3 1/2 years, graduated with my Associates in Arts degree and then went on to get as many of my basic courses 'out of the way' there as I could. After I left Blinn College, I went to Sam Houston State University, during my first semester, I met and married my husband Jake, he was already in the army, stationed at Ft. Hood in Killeen, Texas and was about to deploy to Iraq for the first time just 2 months after we got married, so I left school to be with him. After almost 4 years of marriage, 2 deployments, and the birth of my daughter, I finally went back to school, I'm doing online school through Ashford University, getting my bachelors degree in Educational Studies and a teaching certification for secondary education, which means I can teach at a high school level and it would be my preference to teach high school English. I started once during Jake's first deployment, again when I was pregnant, and finally started again a few months ago. Now it's been a few months since I started again, my 4 year anniversary has come and gone and my daughter's 2nd birthday is rapidly approaching and I am Very proud to say that I have only seven 5-week courses left, 7...and then I Finally graduate with a bachelors degree and a teaching certification that will give me the opportunity to have a career in something I love to do and am passionate about. I have really enjoyed being able to spend all this time with my daughter, not working, not having to send her to daycare, and giving her the ability to depend on me. And now, she'll not only be able to look up to me for accomplishing my goals and strive to do the same in her own life, but when the day comes that I need to start working again, our schedules will coincide, since she will be starting school before I know it (eek!) and I can continue to be there for her as much as I'd like to be (although I'd love it if I could sit in on all of her classrooms until she graduates high school haha). I am so thrilled that I am so close to my goal, only 7 more classes to go!!
